Boulogne-sur-Mer is a city in northern France, in the Pas-de-Calais. Located by the English Channel, with a city population of 44,859 inhabitants, it serves as France’s biggest fishing port and one of the country’s main connections with the United Kingdom.

Boulogne still retains some of its medieval heritage within the city, mostly in the old part of the town. The cobblestone roads and middle age fortifications bare witness to its age.
Attractions
Although not a landmark’s favorite, the city has several things to offer its curious visitors. The absolute highlight is undoubtedly the Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe.

Boulogne’s means of transport focus on land and sea travel and are closely tied together with the surrounding area. Still, for travelers who come from outside France or even outside Europe, there is an airport close to the Village.

Originally the city served as a military port for the Romans in their campaigns to conquer Britain, but reinvented itself as a fishing port at the English Channel.

The restaurants in Boulogne-sur-Mer offer mainly fish specialties, but you can also try the patisseries there, as the French are known for making very tasteful pastries. However the nightlife isn’t anything special and some may find it a little dull.
